New update: 6.3.0.3755

A new version is released (6.3.0.3755). This version can be downloaded from the website.

Biggest highlight is that it delivers up to 30% performance increase when reading data from the catalog.
The larger the catalog, the better noticeable. I've tested with catalogs up to 850K images (ps. the largest catalog that I am aware of manages 1.8M files).

This version includes a database redesign. Make sure that you have a backup of your database before installing this update.

I'd appreciate it if you could let me know when you're up-and-running with this update.

Installed this version. No issues. App is fast. Difficult to compare with the former version. Alltogether since V6 the useability performance wise has much improved even on low spec devices (Microsoft Surface go). Thanks for all of this.
In my DB around 75000 pics.

That’s great. After reading your post I upgraded on a lower spec laptop. There the performance to open a set of 20K images went from 4 to 2 secs. Nice

It's running OK so far, however switching from a folder with 1 image to another with 24K is now taking more time on my machine rather than less:
Build 3705: ±17s
Build 3755: ±24s

Which is puzzling if it should be doing the opposite. Looking at the SQLite Change Log, I see that version 3.36.0 reversed a change made in version 3.35.0 "as it was found to slow down queries more often than speed them up". I wonder if that may offer an explanation?

the performance improvement comes from an improvement in the software, and is unrelated to the database system used. maybe try to compact and try again. and keep preferences as default as possible. 17 seconds to open 24k images is dramatically slow. as mentioned, on my outdated laptop it does 20k in 2s, which was 4s in the previous release. maybe you're not using ssd?

Just installed it on my Laptop which has a small subset of the main database and whilst I haven't done timed measurements its definitely quicker!

One oddity has shown up its identified all the other drives on my \\SERVER without me doing anything only the \\SERVER\PICS was previously selected ?

\Media, \Web etc were not included, I'll try removing them see if they stay removed ?

Edit: Removing them seems to have worked and they haven't reappeared after closing and restarting.

Since the update I get an exception every time I change to a different date in the timeline, or to a different folder, portfolio, etc. Any idea what would cause that? I did send the exception reports.

Can you download and install build 3758 from the website (there's no web update). Does that resolve this?

Hi Hert,
I use the macOS server version with PostgreSQL (v12) on macbook air with Apple Silicon processor.
Installation is OK but I'm unable to update the database => PS is no longer responding and I have to kill it.
I tried several times and waited about 40 minutes before killing PS but I don't think that database upgrade was running.

Any idea??

Can someone please suggest what is an objective test for measuring any change in performance?

I commenced a full compaction using 3677 prior to the latest 3758 install...2 hours later I was still wondering why the process hasn't completed & I PSu becomes responsive again... I check Process Explorer to find that PSu isn't even using any PC resources i.e. it appears to have just frozen at some stage, so my only option was to kill the process ;-( 1st time I've seen this. PS. too late for a before/ after test now, but still a good test for in the future. Certainly subjective 3758 appears no less, possibly faster, in displaying catalog thumbs, but that's not much of a test sorry.

Downloaded and installed update today.
6.3.0.3758 slightly different version than subject line.

I do not have quantitative data, but qualitatively, noticeably faster catalog database and folder verify = yes.
Details (and other Tabs) seem to populate slightly faster along with keywording features.

So far, no hiccups in my 150,000 database

I compacted the database overnight it's still taking around 23 seconds to open 24K images; as the previous compaction was last week the similarity wasn't too surprising. I've also just tried build 3758, just in case, with the same result.

I've run some further tests with varying numbers of images, and the result looks like this:

On to positive side, I can still move between tabs within 1 or 2 seconds, and I do that much more than opening large folders of images.
