Slow transition between tabs (folder to category)
With multiple Collection Viewer tabs open in V6, each displaying a category, I can switch among them very quickly, but if I switch from one of the category tabs to a tab displaying the contents of a folder, it takes a long time, perhaps 25 sec. If I switch between two folder tabs, the transition is very fast. Switching from a folder tab to a category tab takes about 3 sec.
Switching between tabs in summary:
Category to category: << 1 sec
Category to folder: 25 sec
Folder to folder : << 1 sec
Folder to category 3 sec
Any suggestions for how to speed up the category to folder transition time?
My configuration is Windows 10 (64 bit), Samsung SSD EVO 2TB , 16GB RAM, up to date; PSU6 6.0.0.3556 (64 bit).

Re: Slow transition between tabs (folder to category)
Correction: The subject should have been: Slow transition between tabs (category to folder).
Re: Slow transition between tabs (folder to category)
I am having a similar problem, although it occurs with only one tab open. It happens when I switch between categories and folder views.
Program gets marked as "not responding" in windows resource monitor with 0 disk activity and 20-30% CPU usage.
Trialing version 6.0.0.3556, Win10-64 bit, desktop i5, SSD
I turned off "read ICS schema" as I remember that being a bit of a hog. No change for me, but maybe for you?
Turning off all of the read settings in synchronization made no difference either.
Database files have been excluded from anti-virus scan.
Even starting the program is a 20-30 second delay. Almost like it's hanging when trying to access the database.

Re: Slow transition between tabs (folder to category)
My perception of PSU v6 is that it is faster than v5 in most ways, but the category to folder transition time seems longer.
Re: Slow transition between tabs (folder to category)
I share your perception. To add some figures:Khatsalano wrote: 23 Feb 21 3:44 My perception of PSU v6 is that it is faster than v5 in most ways, but the category to folder transition time seems longer.
Category tab to folder tab
1' 19" before the tab switches
1' 38" before the 'no images selected' disappears and I can start labeling
2' 52" before the calculation of the image count in each folder in the tree completes
Folder tab to category tab (or category tab to category tab)
17" to switch tab
26" before the calculation of the image count against each category completes
Spec
Windows 8.1
2.40 gigahertz Intel Core i7-3517U
10 GB RAM
1TB SSD
PSU build 3562, 64bit
Re: Slow transition between tabs (folder to category)
I have an issue with the folder view which might be another manifestation of this problem. If I expand a folder with many subfolders the counters will show up very slowly:
- for 262 subfolders it takes 1 minute and 35 seconds
- for 34 subfolders it's 15 seconds
The speed seems to be related to catalog size. I have 140.000 photos in the catalog. As a test I created a new catalog:
- with 6.000 photos in the test catalog expanding the same folder with 262 subfolders took 2 seconds
- with 11.000 photos 5 seconds
- with 17.000 photos 15 seconds
- for 262 subfolders it takes 1 minute and 35 seconds

Re: Slow transition between tabs (folder to category)
Further to my figures above, I've just run the same test again. As I'm in the process of cataloging that means I'm using different images, folders and categories to before.
The time the figures are significantly better:
Category tab to folder tab (folder tab to folder tab slightly faster)
35" before the tab switches
38" before the 'no images selected' disappears and I can start labeling
1' 09" before the calculation of the image count in each folder in the tree completes
Folder tab to category tab
4" to switch tab
6" before the calculation of the image count against each category completes
Category tab to category tab
2" to switch tabs
The only other difference is that between these two tests I opened the database with DB Browser, poked around, then shut it again. Which should have made no difference...

I tried your experiment too (using the asterisk key to expand the folders):blaikworg wrote: 23 Feb 21 23:05 I have an issue with the folder view which might be another manifestation of this problem. If I expand a folder with many subfolders the counters will show up very slowly:

Re: Slow transition between tabs (folder to category)
Updated to 6.0.0.3571, still having an issue. ~200k files.
I do get different "analyze wait chain" messages though when windows resource monitor marks photo supreme as not responding. Reaching 25% CPU usage, the new messages I've managed to see are:
-overlapped I/O operation in progress
-one or more threads are waiting to finish network I/O
The application takes the same 20-30 seconds to return to operation
horst, once I get back to my computer, I will try disabling the LAN as all images are local.

Re: Slow transition between tabs (folder to category)
With LAN cable disconnected, I still have the same issue that Khatsalano originally reported.
Re: Slow transition between tabs (folder to category)
For a while I thought that installing build 3571 had fixed it for me. The first few tab switches after launching it were much quicker - 11" to change tabs, 12" to being able to start labeling, and 34" until the image count in the image tree finished displaying. Now it's slowed right down again. Strange.
Re: Slow transition between tabs (folder to category)
ok, thank you for trying: I have a similar issue. Some folders here are located at a NAS that most of the time is offline. It looks like PSU is trying to connect taking a while for that. If I disable LAN startup and switching to folder view is speeding up.bshott wrote: 24 Feb 21 22:35 With LAN cable disconnected, I still have the same issue that Khatsalano originally reported.
But that has been the case with V5 already.

Re: Slow transition between tabs (folder to category)
I tried putting Supreme into travel mode, figuring that the software would know all files are unavailable.
Amazingly, it got worse. It took even more time to switch between category/folder view.
Switching between one folder to another (~20 images each) actually froze the program.
There seems to be some sort of issue between Supreme and my system. This may or may not be resolved in a future update.
Thanks for the suggestions, I tried a few things I otherwise might not have tried.
It's a shame as Supreme v6 was the first version I tried since v3 that was able to both convert my database and run the cleanup script.
For now I will stick with my IDimager Pro v5 which works on an older and slower computer.
Good luck all.
