relationships People more easily?

Post by Ralf »

is there a way to maintain relationships more easily? I have to create many, but it is difficult and lengthy to carry out using the small selection field of the "People" categories.

Possibilities could be ...
a. via drag & drop with key combination the only question is "Relationship to" "How ..." "To ..."
b. Add / change People category, enlarge the Parents field
c. memorize the last field from b or a key combination
d. Mark two and context menu Create relationship with parameters from a

someone has an idea how to do it easier

The more complex or unique a relationship is, more manual entry needed to get accurate results

a) drag and drop only works if you want to assign a single person to a single relationship because it moves the people tag in hierarchy underneath

I) Assign group of people w/ same relationships

e.g.: mother, father (same relationship) to children (group) Ann, Kate, Jane etc.
e.g.: Big Joe (boss) to team members (group) Lilltle Jack, Peat, Carl etc.

II) xlm, csv table processed through Scripter?

e.g.,: you prepare a relationship matrix in your favourite spredsheet editor, text editor etc. in the format of

Person A | to Person B | relationshipA2B , relationshipB2A
Peter Jane husband wife

Peter Kate mother-in-law son-in-law

Kate Jane mother daughter

Jane Julie sister sister

Use Scripter to update relationships in the database?

III) Or similarly to the assign label panel:

4 coloum search and drag and drop panel

Person A | to Person B | relationshipA2B , relationshipB2A
Peter Jane husband wife

Peter Kate mother-in-law son-in-law

Kate Jane mother daughter

Jane Julie sister sister

AI might be utilized to recommend relationships. However I am not sure if the cost of development would worth the gain as relationship labels are multi lingual free text labels?

Hello endre
Thank you for your answer.
I am trying to assign thousands of photos to the whole family. The knowledge of simple relationships is still there now and we want to take it in for everyone who is there and who will follow. At least now 80,000 pictures in some generations (only family up to the great-grandparents in early 1900). A great task with many evenings together in winter where everyone adds their stories. So bother ...

That with the scripter sounds good, maybe I can find a snippet somewhere that reads it out of the said CSV and takes it over. That would be a great option ...

I'd certainly be interested in enhanced ways of doing this too. My only idea so far would be to copy and paste relationships between people, similar to how labels can be copied and pasted between images.

On a related topic aimed at speeding up tagging, some time ago I proposed adding a means of copying 'face areas' between images. I initially suggested this for copying them between images in a version set, but it could potentially be used to copy them between other images. In the next build you'll be able to Alt_Drag/drop a catalog label to another catalog to create a relationship between the two

Yes, that's working well and saving time - thanks!

In testing I had the idea that maybe, if I temporarily added the 'parent' for the relationships to a Label Set, I might be able to Alt-drag & drop the 'children' onto that (to save mousing up and down the category tree so much). Though it doesn't work for dropping onto 'Recently Used' labels.

...however I couldn't test this as I noticed that all my self-created label sets were missing from the LAP. They do still exist - if I switch tabs (to GPS, for example) and then back to the LAP, I can see them briefly before they vanish. I've not had reason to use them for weeks (maybe months?), so not sure when they went. Is it just me?
