dropdown list for multiple custom fields

Can a vocabulary list be used for multiple custom field autofills? I need the same set of codes to be used in 3 or more custom fields.

Where the custom fields are actually dropdown fields only containing those values?

Yes, but I don't want to maintain multiple vocabulary files to support this.

As far as I know, one vocabulary text file to support two or more custom fields is not possible.

yup, that's basically what i'm seeing unless there's some fancy scripting i don't know about.
