Hello all,
I've been toying with both Daminion and this software before but haven't bought any yet, now my collection have grown considerably and the need for a software solution aswell.
Is this software still actively developed? Latest tweet says version 3.3 released on August 19th 2016 - almost a year ago - is there a changelog or roadmap somewhere?

Re: Pre-sale question
Release notes are at http://www.idimager.com/WP/?page_id=1374 (though they only go up to build 2601, and I'm on 2602).
There's no published roadmap.

Thanks for the reply, and which server version would you recommend for a home server?

For a Home Server I always recommend the PostgreSQL edition. PostgreSQL is cheap (free to use) and very powerful.

Hi - wondering on how you've judged Photo Supreme versus Daminion? Any conclusions you could share?Ramsy wrote: 02 Aug 17 10:25 Hello all,

Re: Pre-sale question
Well when i did compare photo supreme vs daminion, supreme was better. But then supreme was at version 2 and daminion has progressed a lot after that.
Now i am trying to figure out reason to still use photo supreme. Last update (if not counting small bugfixes) was year ago. As roadmap is not communicated software is now in low maintanance mode or new major version is coming. First one would be reason to leap out, later to hang on.
Workflow that used to work with Capture one 9 and 27" monitor is busted. Photo supreme no longer renames or deletes C1 sidecar files. So i have to do import first to photo supreme, do culling, renaming, editing etc on C1. Then use verify folder to get photo supreme up to speed.
As new monitor is with higher dpi scaling is needed. Photo supreme does not support it, so photos are now blurry. Before i created view copy of ready photo and used that as main version (raw was one version and so was the editing copy). Now that has lost the appeal as viewing photos in photo supreme is pointless due lack of scaling. That hinders usability of organizational features as external viewer is required. That's not that feasible as photo supreme excels at finding photos from different locations and external viewer is unaware of those.
This kinda sucks. Great keywording and organizational features go to waste as their benefits are a lot harder to reap.

Re: Pre-sale question
It seems to me that PSu 3.3 is still well ahead to Daminion v5.
Just to name some areas: PSu label assignment speed is unmatched, XMP fields support is total (less so with Daminion) and easily managed through label-XMP field coupling rules, boolean search engine and client-server support are much more convenient.
I, for one, have both my DB (Postgre = one of the most powerful ones, and free) and my pictures on a NAS (linux box server) and I can access it from whatever client in my LAN. Daminion home-server does not support linux: If I want to use it on my NAS i need to install a Windows virtual machine on my NAS (= 1 Window$ licence) and the Daminion server on top: an unneeded heavy and expensive setup (both money and hardware resources wise). Linux server support is being the top requested feature on Daminion forum for a couple of years: so much for a "customer hints" driven development...
PSu licensing scheme is cheaper than Daminion's, more so since Daminion changed its own some 6 months ago (and I noticed since then that several newcomers jumped ship and appeared on this board..). Their new scheme is maybe more compatible with their marketing expenses (Idimager marketing effort appears much less).
Not all is gold of course.
Lack of 4K monitors support is unbecoming these days and it is what is holding me back from the purchase of such a monitor...but then again PSu is not the only piece of software not supporting high DPI, and I hope that will change soon.
There are software bugs here and there (well: it's software after all..) and the latest solved bugs in Mantis date back to April (but then again: Mantis exists for PSu, not so for several competitors...).
But the pros are to me still more important than the cons.
Just my 2 €c...

Re: Pre-sale question
PSu (as with many manufactures, look at Nikon, Canon, Sony) do not communicate their roadmaps for strategic reasons.hesee wrote: 06 Sep 17 15:14 Last update (if not counting small bugfixes) was year ago. Low maintenance to me indicates that it's working well, so no reason to change. That suits me.
Was Capture One version 8 better for you? I feel that C1 has improved some things, esp. metadata which helps the integration with PSu. I would rejoice the day that they both work in perfect harmony, but that might be long away. I have found a workaround.hesee wrote: 06 Sep 17 15:14 Workflow that used to work with Capture one 9 and 27" monitor is busted. Photo supreme no longer renames or deletes C1 sidecar files. My ears are completely open if you would like to post about a better DAM and editor combination.
There is a tradeoff working with two programs from two different manufacturers, both of which have their strengths, but different goals and different timeframes. I also feel that the communication with PSu developer and users is a lot easier than with C1.
There are not many PSu + C1 users here.

Never say never change, but using Mac since 2005. Photo Supreme 3.3.0.2605. I endorse the interoperability of files between applications and systems.
Re: Pre-sale question
During past year according to mantis there have been 6 resolved issues (all bugfixes) and 64 new issues/suggestions. Well amount of corrections is bit higher, example flickr wasn't reported in Mantis. Anyway major softwarehouses keep roadmaps hidden, but you start to see pattern. C1 has about 1-1.5 year cycle, when 50% sale appears new version is near. Sale allways ends before new grace perioid of new version. So you either get old version at 50% off or get free update to new version. Corel releases every autumn, DXO should release version 12 soon.Stephen wrote: 24 Sep 17 18:25PSu (as with many manufactures, look at Nikon, Canon, Sony) do not communicate their roadmaps for strategic reasons.hesee wrote: 06 Sep 17 15:14 Last update (if not counting small bugfixes) was year ago. There's a pattern in Canon/Nikon etc too. Newer software/hardware houses don't have that luxory of established release pipeline. Having a released roadmap gives feeling of continity to the end users, but add's extra stress to the developer as some can thing planned features as promises. That takes out the fun of the developent work.
According to fixes Photo Supreme appears to be in either same road as Nik software (fixing just 3rd party incompabilities or major bugs) before turning of the lights, or new major version is on the way. That's the downside of no roadmap and low profile in mantis, you have to try to read between the lines what's going on.
It was ok, but it didn't support my new graphics card and in C1 you can skip one version before you have to upgrade, inorder to keep upgrade pricing.Stephen wrote: 24 Sep 17 18:25 Was Capture One version 8 better for you? That's the problem. There's few areas where Photo Supreme really outshines the competion. Keywording is still best i have seen. Versioning is good, but it could be better. With standalone raw developers/photo editors you get raw file, edit file, final file, propably even published file. Groupping them together and selecting what version to show as default is one of the best features of Photo Supreme and most DAM's lack that.Stephen wrote: 24 Sep 17 18:25 My ears are completely open if you would like to post about a better DAM and editor combination.

Then it drops the ball with highdpi displays and now broken C1 integration. I could try if it works better on ntfs drive, but current refs gives protection from bitrot so images won't get corrupted by diskfaults. Giving that up isn't that tempting.
