Q: Minor flaws to be reported in Mantis?

Post by dino »

for a newbie like me it’s very hard to become acquainted with such a complex subject like PSU … the quick start manuals are helping me (but i’m still dreaming of more detailed descriptions) … a very important help for me is the built-in help system … and of course this forum (another dream: a wiki with all these precious hints of this forum) …because my English is very improvable I appreciate very much that PSU speaks German, unfortunately not the manuals and this forum (another dream?) … sorry for this extensive intros.

Here is my real concern:

I found some minor flaws like wrong spelling or design problems or inconsistency in wording in some tip balloons of the German help system.

(1) As an example of a wrong spelling see attached picture (a) of a balloon activated in “preferences / general / regional settings / language”. Instead of “neue starten, damit” should be shown “neu starten damit”(no “e” “,”).

(2) For bad line break and incomplete text see attached picture (b) of a balloon activated in “preferences / Synchronize settings / write settings”.

Should I report this and other minor flaws in Mantis for correcting (low priority of course) or is it nitpicking?

Greetings

I would think it might be best to send these things directly to Hert, who can then forward them to the relevant translator, who as far as I know do this work for free as a volunteer. So, don't be too hard on them :wink:

Personally I'd suggest adding them to Mantis, so they are not lost...

@dino
I feel that it's nitpicking. Sorry if you aree offended, if German is your mother tongue, but as long as it is clearly understandable - and it appears to be - then I would forget it. IMHO, the developers have so much on their hands to cope with real improvements ;-)
Never say never change, but using Mac since 2005. Photo Supreme 3.3.0.2605. I endorse the interoperability of files between applications and systems.

Thx to all for your comments

@fbungarz
I do not want to look gift horses in the mouth ;-)
I am afraid Hert is not very happy to find my peanuts in his mailbox

@mke
this makes sense only if low priority Mantis entries are done within an acceptable period of time

@stephen
Your arguments have made me think

I am far away from using PSU as an expert … therefore sometimes even small discrepancies are bothering me as a beginner … however i do not want to be guilty of an overload of the software developers through the Mantis channel ;-) … I agree that priority is put on new features etc. and not on a regional language used by a minority of PSU users only … so I have to improve my English as well as my PSU knowledge

PSu is a commercial application and any language support offered should be correct and clear to the users choosing that language. I am sure that Hert would agree, but probably would not prioritise language corrections over bug fixes. By entering your observations into Mantis you are helping Hert to manage priorities and keep track of requested changes etc. Don't hesitate to do it!
