Thanks, George. Please rest assured that I haven't taken Mike's reply badly at all, it was fair enough. Let me say that my intention was neither to parrot Hert (or his mantra), nor to discount his contributions on the forum. (If anything, I wish he would provide more developer's insights, not less.) Granted, my comments might not have been best phrased - thanks again, George, for reading and placing them in the proper context.

George,

My post certainly wasn't intended to be harsh. Instead, it was intended to direct attention to the fact that this forum is not only a user-to-user forum as Hert regularly explains.

There is not a thing wrong with limiting the forum to discussion of how to use the product, though it is interesting that Hert himself regularly violates that understandable limitation. Ironically, I recognize that this and my previous post also violate that limitation.

However it is particularly wrong in my mind to explain that this forum is only a user-to-user forum because that is simply not true. Hert's insistence on calling it that is an attempt at artful deception and I, especially as a long-time customer who has repeatedly and publicly recommended the product, don't ever want to be on the receiving end of intentional deception.

It's one thing to ignore the deception as I and most of us have done in the past. However, we as users should not be supporting the deception, which explains why I called attention to Vlad's comment. Nobody appreciates more than me that he tirelessly provides invaluable information in the forum, so my comment was intended to address only one small but important point he made.

This will be my last post on this subject in the thread, with apologies to everyone that I have already taken the thread off-topic.

I completely understand that it's impossible for some here to see my presence here as a user. You're right.
This is a user-to-user forum. If you have suggestions, requests or need support then please send a message

Can we please get this discussion back on track again instead of having these odd debates about Hert's role on the forum?
I would like a simple answer to my questions:

What GPS coordinate format do I need to use in a CSV file with the Import CSV Data.psc script (http://scripts.idimager.com/cgi-bin/idi ... 29922d5dae)?

What format does the script accept when trying to import dates?

We can discuss endlessly if this forum would be the right place for Hert (the author of the script) to answer my question. The resource repository has no user forum where I can pose this question. My question is also not about a bug, a suggestion etc. So filing it in Mantis makes no sense.

Of course I can send an email also directly to Hert and hope to get an answer. But nobody else of the PSu community benefits from that. And it might be useful for people here to know how the script works. I had hoped somebody on the forum had used the script before or perhaps Hert would notice it and quickly answer my question.
Instead I am now confronted with an absurd discussion whether Hert should or should not participate in this forum!
Sorry, but I find this really annoying.

And my question is actually not simply an academic one:
In IDimager I had some rather bad experiences with file corruption, when I tried a previous version of the script (http://scripts.idimager.com/cgi-bin/idi ... ddde488347). It would mess up dates and GPS data (in fact in PSu I am still deleting GPS data from these files!). I would like to avoid this experience again!

It is really beyond me how a simple answer to my question about this script would interfere with how people see Hert's role in this forum!

Frank, it just occurred to me there's a simple way to get detailed answers to these and similar questions: select one or more images with GPS coordinates, invoke Metadata -> Export Metadata to CSV File and select the GPS and DateTime fields (as well as any other fields that pique your interest). I haven't tested, but my strong expectation is that the output CSV file will contain metadata in the format suitable for importing. (Just make sure to not change any settings, possibly including OS localization settings, between the export and the import.)

As an example, I am seeing 47,45.754710N for exif:GPSLatitude and 2014-04-30T16:24:28+03:00 for exif:DateTimeOriginal.

Hope that helps,
Vlad
