Custom field values missing from tree

Post by jmtpct »

I have a few custom fields to record location IDs and some other info from some old files. The fields are all populated, and up until this morning I was able to search on values in those fields and see each value in the tree when I expanded "Your Custom Fields" in the catalog view. Now all I see are zeroes and no individual values (imgA), yet the custom fields are still populated as they were before (imgB). As a test I manually re-entered one of the values in the custom field and it shows up, but it's the only one. Any ideas? The data is still there but PS isn't reading it for some reason. I'm working in a server configuration with Postgre.

Thanks,
JT

I'm no expert and only with a single user version, but you might want to try the following with a test file:
Right click then:
Either
Save meta data to file
and/or
Read meta data from file

Hope it helps. Please post your results here.

Thanks! Read metadata worked. Doing that for 48000 files will take some time however. Definitely an overnight task. Any idea why this happened in the first place and/or how I can avoid the problem in the future?

Pleased that it worked, but no idea why this happened, I am afraid. There are better qualified participants here. You might try to do it in stages rather than all at once... just my experience with using PSu.

Finally figured out why (or at least when) this is happening. When I compact the catalog database, the database isn't storing/re-reading the values in each field, so they all reset to zero even though the values remain in the metadata for each file. Only recourse is to re-read metadata for all files. Time-intensive to say the least. Opened a ticket on mantis:
