Duplicate Top Level Folders (PS Server Edition)

Post by rab108 »

Photo Supreme Server Edition, build 3.1.1.2070.ss (Two copies in use)

Situation:
In PS there are two top level folders with the same name, each with a different letter/number combination after the name.

(original) -- archive4; A27F-D3B4 – This folder and all of its sub-folders have a red warning label over it (does not exist/not available). This is the folder that PS “originally” created when we began importing photos from archive4.

(new) -- archive4; D0EB-9544 – Now, when we import files from archive4, they are uploaded to this folder and not to the “original” folder.

Our servers only have 1 archive4 folder. To my knowledge we have never had a second archive4 folder. When this happened is unknown. Multiple people use PS. Our IT department maintains the servers and our servers went down a while back, but IT claims that nothing has changed and the fault lay elsewhere.

I would like to understand why:
a) there are two archive4 folders in Photo Supreme; and
b) why new files are now uploading to the “new” archive4 folder.

Currently, there are not that many files in the original folder so uploading them again is not a big problem. But had there been tens of thousands of photos or more, then it would be a pain to have to upload them again.

Any suggestions what is happening or why this has happened?

Thanks,

Hi,

Files are identified by their file name plus mefium type plus medium name plus medium serial number. If either of these change then that's a new medium for PSU.
Most likely when the server went down your it department replaced a hard drive in the server, hence the change of the drive serial number.

Right click on the "red" top level folder and select "Map to the correct physical folder and point to the folder. That will merge the two.

Hope that helps
