Moved to new PC and new Hard Drive - verify folders?

Post by tomas »

I recently upgraded my Windows PC and hard drive.
Backed up images from old drive D: and restored to new PC and new drive D: using MS Backup.
Backed up and restored PhotoSupreme data base and restored to new machine.
PS now tells me I need to 'add images to the catalog' for every image on the new drive when i do a folder verify.
I can see keywords in the Data drive folder that it is telling me to 'add to the catalog'.
But when I do this it creates a new D: Data directory in the catalog and all my keyword are gone when I examine images in that drive folder.
What am I doing wrong?
thanks,
tomas

PSU tracks the location differently from drive letter, hence it thinks the images are new (because from a new location) and asks to import.

You should go to the root of your file tree in the catalog and re-locate it to the correct disk location. Then PSU will continue as if nothing happened.

Others will chime in if necessary.

HCS - do you mean i should use "Map to correct physical folder" option at the very top of the directory that lists drive letter/name and some cryptic code numbers?
Or do that further down the tree like at the top of my "Images" folder?
A bit nervous about doing it lest I lose my keywords.

Yep, that's the one i mean. Technically, you could do this on a lower level and repeat for every directory you'd want to remap. I was assuming that you'd left the tree untouched when moving to the new disk.

Your keywords are in the database, not in the files (unless you set the option to write to file), so remapping will allow PSU to show th pictures in line with the keywords.

You could try a lowest level one first to "test" and the later do the top level "for real".

If you're really uncertain, please write to Hert to get his view on how to do this.

Proceed carefully!

Take a look at this thread: http://forum.idimager.com/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=23899 and the corresponding Matis ticket at http://bugs.idimager.com/view.php?id=2901 (which also contains a workaround).

I'd be interested if you're experiencing the same...
