Photo Supreme development roadmap

Post by oversampling »

Hi,

I am currently in the (long) process of selecting a DAM for my photo collection, and evaluating PSU alongside others.
Does it exist a PSU features development roadmap, or at least a features priority list for the next release? By the way is the next release planned for 2015?
Thank you

Hi Roberto. A warm welcome to the forum. No announcements are made about what is planned for future versions nor when releases are planned. Select (any) software because you like what it does today.
This is a user-to-user forum. If you have suggestions, requests or need support then please send a message

Roberto,

Welcome to our forum! When I was looking for a DAM, I purchased the old MS product Expression Media. It refused to import very large tiff and psd files and even after help from MS tech support, I could never get I to work. Research continued...

A friend recommended IDImager, which was version 5 of that program. It was the precursor to PSu. After looking at reviews of other packages, I bought it. I liked it, I appreciated Hert's tech support, and the help from this lively forum, so here I am now with Version 3 of PSU. I couldn't be happier.

I agree with Hert's philosophy of keeping his plans 'close to the vest', as it were. He does announce new versions on the website when they are ready, and the program itself will advise you when updates are available.

So, take the time to really wring out the trial of PSu. I believe you'll be very happy with it. It's very robust, and yes, there's a learning curve, but it won't take long.

Be sure to ask questions here. There's a lot of folks who have PSu dialed and they will help you.

The same for me. I began using the product a little more than seven years ago after investigating several competitors and have used it nearly every day since then. I've never had a need to re-investigate the competition.

Hello Roberto,

I agree with above people and can also confirm that after many years usage of IdImager and PSU I am a happy user. This foum and Herts' valuable technical assistence has allways been good.
Good luck with your hunting and if you start using PSU I hope you will find it as valuable as I do

@Roberto: welcome to the forum and I hope you stick with Photo Supreme. Hert and many fellows on the forum most likely know by now that I am very happy with PSU, so I wholeheartedly recommend it too.

Still, even if today's features are what matter today, I could see how prospective or existing customers might wish for some kind of roadmap, even if scarce on details and subject to change (non-binding). Obviously, it is Hert's prerogative to decide that he wants to be completely silent on any plans for the future (even the near future) - I would only say that other companies (and I could offer examples, outside the DAM space) choose to announce or offer hints on roadmaps or certain features in order to gauge feedback, build up excitement, engage the community or plant a flag (innovation) in the market. I could see such an approach working for Photo Supreme too (regardless of any past experiences), but that is obviously only my very own opinion.

Hi Roberto,
though it is not quite a "roadmap" per se, there is a forum where users can report bugs and make suggestions what they would like to see in future editions of the software: http://bugs.idimager.com/
It gives you a good overview how efficiently bugs are being addressed and feature requests get implemented. It also allows you to contribute with your own suggestions.
Perhaps this is useful for you too.
Cheers,
Frank

Hert, all,

thanks for the warm welcome. A valid support forum attended by nice users is actually one of my selection criteria.
Following some of your balanced suggestions I took a look at Mantis, and I am exploring the PSU trial.
PSU is currently among my 3 shortlisted pieces of software...

Vlad and Roberto and everyone else:

I am only an amateur as a photographer. My profession is software product management, and the issue of product futures and product roadmaps is a very common one. For large business customers, it is a common practice, but not universal, to share product roadmaps as a condition of doing business. Indeed, if Hert has any such customers, he might be sharing roadmaps to give the customers a sense of the future and to get feedback on the roadmap.

For us "consumer" customers, we don't get that luxury. I can't think of a single example of a consumer market product where the vendor or manufacturer routinely publishes a product roadmap. Of course there are always unofficial or leaked roadmaps.

If Hert published a roadmap, he is telling his competition what his plans are. And if for any reason, the next release is late or doesn't contain all the features described in the roadmap, it's a painful experience.

Just my perspective here.
