PhotoSupreme V3 won't restart
Yesterday, I was importing a ton of pictures. I had finished directories 2006, 2007, and 2008 and had put them in the catalog with keywords. (I backed up after each directory import.)
I then imported 2009, about 14,000 images. I knew this would take a while, so I started it and went grocery shopping.
When I returned, the PC was turned off (monitors still on.)
I had no idea if the import had completed or not.
I clicked on the PhotoSupreme icon. Task manager showed it running. CPU up to 13% (AMD 8 core) utilizing 108 Meg of memory. Suddenly, it began to decrease CPU and Memory. Then it disappeared from Task Manager completely. Nothing had shown on the computer monitor.
I tried to restart it. Same symptons.
How do I restart it without using the last import/catalog which apparantly is damaged?
- Any suggestions about how to recover?
- Or do I just delete the cat/thumbnails and start over? How?
Thanks.
Bob

Re: PhotoSupreme V3 won't restart
Before attempting anything else, you may want to restart your computer (just in case). You could also try starting Photo Supreme on the command line and possibly point it to a different catalog. Command line parameters:
-D <<database name>>
Specify the path and name of the SQL database.
-P <<password>>
Specify the login password for the IDimager-username
Good luck!

Bob, sorry to read about this. Power failure is killing for database applications as the database system can get corrupted. Chances are this happened here.
Your database can be found in (assuming that you're on Windows) %localappdata%\IDimager Systems, Inc.\Catalog
There delete (good thing to keep a backup first) the .cat.db and .thumbs.db files.
Then on startup the database will be automatically recreated.
Then import your images again. If you wrote your catalog changes to the files before then on Import this data will re-appear (depending on how you had set your sync-write settings).

Re: PhotoSupreme V3 won't restart
My oldish laptom occasionally shuts down abruptly, and I've noticed, it's usually if it's imminently overheating from some heavy CPU load. I would suspect, something along those lines happened for you as well.
My metadata changes changes are always sync'ed back to the files immediately, so everything can be recreated upon a re-import of my folders.

Re: PhotoSupreme V3 won't restart
Bob,
Just curious, but did you find out what caused your PC to shut down?
If it was a power failure, do you have a battery backup, and if so, is it connected to your computer so that the PC can shut down gracefully?
I have an APC battery backup that uses a USB connection and software that does this.
If you suspect an overheating issue, you can run a program called Prime95 that causes the CPU to run at 100%. While it's running you can use another small program called Coretemp to see the temperature of your CPU.
Lastly, were you able to get your PSu database fixed? I hope so!

Re: PhotoSupreme V3 won't restart
I am am concerned I have a bad power supply. Temps are very reasonable. All device drivers are up to date. No blue screens or GPU messages. Sometimes Win Explorer crashed sometimes.
First, I'm going to rebuild Win 7 and then see if it fixes it. If not I'll go after the power supply.
Thanks for the support.
