Can't see DxO edits

Post by Paul C »

I had this question buried in another topic, so let me separate it out here. I am under the impression that PS will display an approximation of DxO edits, but I can't get any DxO edits to show up, just the unchanged raw file. I confirmed that the .dop file is in the same directory as the image, and I have the "DxO edits support" preference set to "Approximate". I am running OS X 10.10.2, DxO Optics Pro 10, and PS build 3.1.0.2067.

I probably have something set wrong. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Have you tried rebuilding the thumbs? In Windows the keyboard shortcut is Ctrl+T but I'm not sure about Mac. Maybe Command+T?

Yes, thanks for the suggestion but I Verified the files and rebuilt the thumbnails several times - no help.

The shortcut to rebuild a thumb is Cmd-Alt-T

You can quickly test it with a crop made in Do. That should also show up in PSU

If it doesn't then can you add your dop file here (maybe rename it to txt).

Well, turns out I was right - I was doing something wrong. I had made what I thought were radical changes in DxO that I couldn't miss in PS. I changed the White Balance to Sodium Lamp for an extreme color cast and rotated the image upside down. Can't miss, right?

Looks like PS doesn't see the white balance changes and PS seems to ignore image rotation from within DxO. As soon as I applied a crop or desaturated the image, those changes showed up fine. I guess I misunderstood the range of changes that could be seen in PS. It looks like PS must be taking the white balance and image orientation from the original exif and I guess DxO does not alter those exif settings to make these adjustments.

So, in my DxO images I can see changes in crop, saturation, contrast and exposure, but I should not expect to see white balance, rotation (including straightening horizon) and probably anything related to color from my DxO images. Is that correct?

Thanks

Make sure to share the settings file with Hert, as a rotation shouldn't be something that's missed in the "Approximate" setting.

I'm happy to do that, but you'll have to excuse me - I'm new to this forum. Which settings, specifically? And how do I share them with Hert?

No problem. I meant the DxO settings file (.dop file if i'm not mistaken). You could share them via the general idimager email address, or alternatively raise a ticket in mantis where you attach the file (http://mantis.idimager.com/login_page.php). In mantis, you'd have to create an account first, it's the issue tracking system IDImager uses for its software development.

Paul, did you get DxO colour rendering to show accurately in PSU? If so, that might be a useful editor for me, as I could not get Capture One to work well enough.

Also, can you get DNG files created in other applications to open in DxO? I have heard that they do not because the "open" standard is not followed.
Never say never change, but using Mac since 2005. Photo Supreme 3.3.0.2605. I endorse the interoperability of files between applications and systems.
