I have been using PSU to assign keywords to pictures to share with family members. I have used EXIFTOOL 9.9 to look at what is being placed in the file and discover that the keywords section just keeps growing and growing. It contains the same labels written over and over. Multi word labels are showing up as each word: "Cheesecake Factory" is showing as "Cheesecake, Factory" and is repeated multiple times, apparently once for each time I have had PSU write the metadata to the file. I would have expected this to be cleared and updated whenever I write the metadata back to the file.
The "Subject" section appears correct, the "Hierarchical Subject" is ok, and the "Person in Image" is ok. "Label Name 1", "Label Name 2", etc are ok. but the "Keywords" section has gone nuts with each word of multi-word labels is repeated over and over; apparently it has been additive and every time the metadata has been written it has just appended the same info to this field again and again.
Any idea how to get PSU to clear this and clean it up?
Lastest current PSU set to update out-of-sync images and write hierarchical keywords. Keywords processing is set to "Replace keywords with Catalog labels".
exiftool shows keyword segment getting bigger
Re: exiftool shows keyword segment getting bigger
You're not alone - just checked and it's doing the same here too. Will file a report in Mantis and post the ticket number back here shortly.
Update: See Mantis ticket #2828 Extra copy of IPTC keyword words written to file on every 'save metadata to file'

Re: exiftool shows keyword segment getting bigger
glad to know that someone else sees it and it isn't something I was doing because I misunderstood a setting or proper use!

I have found this too, and mentioned it another post (http://forum.idimager.com/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=23672), where I added this:
I would be interested to know (not being familiar with the territory) whether both dc:subject and IPTC-keywords are equally important, or where each is used? Having two fields which are (presumably) supposed to be the same doesn't seem a particularly good idea, although I realise this just reflects the historical development of metadata "standards"The term “keywords” – e.g. as in the global setting “Store keywords in alphabetical order” – really refers to dc:subject, and not to the IPTC field. Not being an expert I don’t know how dc:subject and IPTC-keywords are used elsewhere, nor their relative importance, but the loose use of terminology doesn’t help newcomers to metadata
