Copy the files with Wndows explorer, not with PSU's backup feature. The delete the files, yes both the cat and the thumbs database.

It has worked on a small directory of photos and so I am now importing my whole collection across. It looks like some of the catalog categories may need some tidying up but that is about it.

So for future, do not work with the database across the home network! Would the correct way to work be to copy the two DB files to my laptop, work offline and then copy the files back up to the desktop and then on the desktop, while online, sync the photo collection?

That's great. Don't forget to disable the ICS reading again after you recovered the info from the metadata.

That is correct. Networks and file based desktop databases don't go together due to the high transaction risks.

But.... there's a setting in PhotoSupreme that increases database security at the cost of speed. This *could* safe you in a network setup like yours. So if you're still willing to consider that road then run this small script (Tools -> Scripter) on the laptop (not needed on the desktop).

Again, only run it on the laptop. Then try for a few weeks and see if the database stability is then better. Of course, always make sure that you have a good backup strategy.

I have been experiencing the same thing from when I first created a catalogue of all my digital images which number over 140,000. I don't know what to do. I have tried on numerous occasions to compact the catalogue, but to no avail. Do I have to delete the whole catalog and start again?

Best to restore your backup. If you don't have a backup then first determine if the catalog or the thumbs database that fails.
