Version 4 - Oh Dear.

Post by MikeNaylor » 06 Feb 18 17:01

Frustrated with bugs, freezing & crashes, I migrated out of V3 back to Lightroom Classic a few weeks ago, having launched into V3 for the second time less than 3 months ago.

The Newsletter arrived, announcing a new major release version. I was so excited, so I download Version 4 and installed on my iMac 27" Retina.

Regretfully, its still only 32 bit. How disappointing! 2018 and its still running on old code from decades ago.

There appears to be a 64-bit version for Windows. Is that not true for Mac?

Unfortunately not.

There is a PSU 64bit version for Windows for a few years already. We're working very hard to get the 64 bit version for macOS out the door asap.

Hert. Modern programming tools don't have this problem. In fact, there are many 64bit cross platform applications out there that work just fine. You really need to listen and move with times.

Other than an aversion to 32 bit, what's the problem here?

The problem here is PSu will cease working all together as Apple continues to phase out 32bit application support. PSu relies on a 3rd party package that is calling depreciated MacOS system level functions by default. Most, if not all, problems experienced under MacOS are directly related to the way PSu interfaces with the operating system. Apple depreciates old code with every release and its up to the developers to keep up with the changes.

The next "point" update to macOS, 10.13.4, introduces a warning when opening up a 32-bit app as part of an effort to phase them out.

In the future, Apple plans to phase out 32-bit Mac apps, just like it did with 32-bit iOS apps.

Apple says macOS High Sierra is the last version of macOS that will support 32-bit apps without compromises.

Yes, then you will either have to do without the update or have to search for other software as a PSU.I know that's not what you want to hear ...I still have El Capitan running here, because everything has not changed anything useful afterwards.

Mike, as the developer in this threat already stated: They are working hard to roll out a 64bit macOS version.
