Two Maps Two Results

Post by MikeNaylor » 13 Dec 17 20:38

I took a reference photo on my iPhone for the GPS coordinates. Here, the map on the left is from Google and the right is from PSU. I know where I was standing when I took the photo. It was exactly where Google shows the red pin.
Any ideas why the two pins show different places?

That's odd. Can you share the exact lat and lon values here?
Tnx

PSU also uses Google Maps and so there shouldn't be any difference. The confusion here comes from the 3D display. Switch the Map to 2D in PSU and you'll see the exact location as shown in the 2D map of Google Maps. And when switching to 3D in the Google Maps you'll see that the marker "floats" above the map. They now draw a white line down from the map to the location so that it becomes more apparent why the location appears off.
I'd have to dive into it to see if my suspicion is correct.

Thank you Hert. I didn't realise either map could be toggled between 2D and 3D. Now they agree with each other.
