import issue following partially failed import

Post by snowman1 »

I ran an import from a memory card that was not fully successful, with 8 files not successful due to disk errors. Idi correctly knows that the 8 were not successful, logged the error, and defaults these 8 to "marked" when the card is inserted. But running the import again does not import the 8 images, saying they are already in the catalog. This is a repeat of the issue I posted some time ago at http://forum.idimager.com/viewtopic.php ... 74#p102939

I have removed the folders involved from the catalog, but the problem still occurs. I know I can fix this by manually creating another profile, as the problem seems to be related to what is stored against that profile in the database - but is there an easier way? As things stand it doesn't seem like the importer can recover gracefully from a write/verification failure.

Hi Snowman,
saying they are already in the catalog
It suggests that they might be already in the catalog; it doesn't tell that they are.
It could also be that these files already exist on the hard drive and you have your import configured to skip existing files.
Or maybe you didn't mark them for import.

Hi Hert

You got it - it was that the (corrupt, partially imported) files were still there and the profile was set to skip duplicates. I changed the profile to overwrite duplicates and it imported perfectly.

I was put off the scent by the message referring to the catalog combined with the fact that the issue still occurred even when I had file copy turned off*.

(*I think - I'm not 100% sure about that now and I haven't tried to recreate. It's not unreasonable in any case for it to check for file existence, I just didn't consider it).

As a suggestion, perhaps in a future release the message might be changed from "ingesting finished without results, perhaps these images are already in your catalog?" to "ingesting finished without results, perhaps these images are already in your catalog or the files already on disk?"

Thanks for your help, that was a good spot!

For information, I was also getting this rather cryptic message (in PS 2) when importing failed due to incorrect folder naming syntax I had set up to create subfolders. As soon as I corrected it the imports worked fine.
