Re: How often does Photo Supreme crash for you?

Hi All, I ran a quick test locking and then unlocking portfolio collections: 1. On a collection sorted by file name, PSu did not crash. 2. On a collection manually sorted, PSu did not crash. So, the issue I reported earlier in this thread may have been a one-off. If it happens again, I'll report bac...

Re: How often does Photo Supreme crash for you?

Mike--

This could be related to the other two bugs. I just tried to move a portfolio collection up in a listing, and PSu locked up. After looking at the bug report, it appears this may be an issue with Win 10.

Re: Access Violation (0) when closing full screen preview

Here is what I did to try to reproduce this:

1. Select an image thumbnail
2. Click Preview
3. Click Full Screen
4. Tap the Esc Key
5. Returns to standard view of the UI

Appears to be working fine for me. Build 2075, Windows 10, 64 bit.

Andrew, if you are using different steps, what are they?

Re: How often does Photo Supreme crash for you?

I had a PSu crash today in the current build 2075, Windows 10 Pro. 1. Display a manually sorted Portfolio Collection 2. Right click the Portfolio Collection title 3. Select "Lock Collection" 4. Photo Supreme shows 'Not Responding' in window title bar. The same thing happens when 'unlocking' the coll...

Re: Green pane in the Info Panel

I'm confused, Preston. Why would that disparity occur and why should it be acceptable? Mike, I did not say I found it acceptable; quite the opposite, in fact. In the case of file sizes, PSu and Windows agree, but the number reported by Photo Shop is slightly higher, so it may have something to do w...

Re: Green pane in the Info Panel

Just for grins, I checked the dpi and bit depth of one of my 4x5 film images in PSu's Info Panel and in Photo Shop... PSu: 96 dpi, 8 bit, 6502X8500 px, 660.3 MB Photo Shop: 1800 dpi, 16 bit, 6502X8474 px, 695.7 MB The disparity in the pixel dimensions and file sizes I can understand, but why does PS...

Re: Green pane in the Info Panel

Mike is correct. DPI is only meaningful when printing. The DPI you use for print is that which your printer uses as its native resolution. For example, my Epson printer's native resolution is 360 DPI, and my HP is 300. In my editing software (Photo Shop) I size the dpi to either one of these dependi...

Re: PS backup process slow?

Phil & Preston - why would you do that??? I know I would not, but human nature being what it is, a panicked user may see Tools>Restore Photo Supreme Data when their catalog or thumbs are gorked, having forgotten that they had used another backup method. Frank, I do use PSu's backup function to back...

Re: PS backup process slow?

If you use an external backup process, there is never a need to use Supreme's Restore function. Instead, you can simply put your backup catalog files in the proper folder and then load Supreme. That's true, Mike. My point was that if one used another backup solution and then tried to PSu' Restore f...

Re: PS backup process slow?

PSu's backup capability sets things up so that its internal Restore capability will work if you have a problem. Although I haven't tried it, restoring your Catalog and Thumbnail DB's from a backup done with Syncback, Acronis, or other software may not work properly. I only offer this as a cautionary...

Re: • Can folder color settings or other preferences be copied from one catalog to another?

Another example would be that the types of photos are so different, such as scientific photos used for one's career vs. travel photos used as family memories.
This would be the most likely scenario for me; separating my 'nature/landscape' images from 'hand of man' images into two catalogs.

Phil, thanks for adding the feature request to Mantis. I voted for it.

Even though I have only one catalog, this would be a nice feature to have.

Re: How often does Photo Supreme crash for you?

When I got this computer and started having the problems (blue screens)... How are the temperatures running on your machine, especially under a heavy load? Here's a handy utility for seeing what's going on: HW Monitor . If you really want to stress your system, run Prime95 while monitoring your tem...

Re: How often does Photo Supreme crash for you?

I haven't had PSu crash in a long time. Occasionally, it shows "Not Responding" when I do a DB compact, but the process always completes successfully. My SWAG is that the Compact process temporarily suspends the PSu GUI. (I don't touch the GUI during backup or compact: I just let PSu do its thing) I...

Re: New thumbnail marker for external changes?

I agree with Mike, at least in the context of my own system. I use PSu exclusively for image management, and do all my editing in ACR and Photoshop. No other applications touch my images except for File Explorer in Windows 10. Now, Vlad, your idea would be helpful to those who do use other applicati...
