Re: Just "discovered" that I can't create custom XMP in Photo Supreme

Phil, Just ran across this topic. I am also a photographer with a primary interest in rail. I originally bought IDI because of it's flexible XMP and am now facing the realization that my custom data cannot be moved forward. What are you doing to get past this? Eric Eric, Easiest way to explain is v...

Move the Custom Fields from the Info button to the Details button?

All the standard metadata for an image is displayed when the Details button is selected. It would be convenient to view custom fields at the same time. Now I have to switch back and forth between Details and Info.

Is this change possible?

Re: going out of sync

This really underlines the need to fully understand the interrelations among the various party of PSu. As mentioned above, one small change can have a huge knock-on effect and affect many other images. Part of my problem is probably applying PSu to an existing set of over 250,000 images now in my c...

Re: Custom XMP - addititional observations and questions

I was not aware that a label could map to multiple metadata fields. That's awesome!

And yes, I am not going to try a direct interface between MS Access and the PSu database. I have been warned.

Re: Custom XMP - addititional observations and questions

Custom XMP is like any XMP, no difference except that they're written in the ics scheme, just like any other field writes to their own name. 2. Never do so as you won't know what related tables need updating when writing XMP to the database. You could end up ruining your database or resulting in un...

Custom XMP - addititional observations and questions

I've been doing more experiments with custom fields, and here is what I have observed. I'm doing this post so that people with more experience can correct me if necessary. Also, for anyone interested in adding custom fields, this thread may prove useful. 1. Creating a custom field makes that field a...

Re: All my catalogs just disappeared and all custom settings gone.

The list of catalogs shown is the list of matching *.cat.db files in your catalog folder (by default the %localappdata%\Idimager systems, inc\Catalog). If you currently have a catalog open from another folder then the list is appended with catalogs that match the folder of the currently active cata...

OK. I will have to do that. I was hoping that he was reading the forum and picked up on this issue.

Re: All my catalogs just disappeared and all custom settings gone.

idimager.cat.db is indeed the default. If you have created catalogs with different names the default may still exist somewhere, but be empty. Your database files should be named as usersuppliedname .cat.db and usersuppliedname .thumbs.db What happens if you use the OS to search all drives for *.cat...

Re: All my catalogs just disappeared and all custom settings gone.

Under Mac it's called idimager.cat.db Isn't that the name of the default catalog? In any case, I restored that file, into the default location (in Windows). No change. So again, I created a test catalog in my test catalog directory. And again, PSu (1) confirmed that the catalog was created, and (2)...

All my catalogs just disappeared and all custom settings gone.

My production catalog and all the various test catalogs I've created in the past week to experiment with custom XMP - all gone - when I just opened up PSu to do another experiment. So I created another test catalog, then tried to open it, but PSu couldn't find it. The *.db file wasn't present in my ...

Re: Questions about using custom fields in PSu V 3.3 +

This result has nothing to do with coding. It has to do with sorting on a string vs. sorting on a number. You would get the sort order you want if you used leading "0", e.g. -02 or 03.

Your result is why I wanted to have a field that was defined as integer.

Re: Questions about using custom fields in PSu V 3.3 +

Restating my question 4, is there a separate XML type of "unsigned integer?" Or is numeric data stored as a text string? What if I wanted to sort low to high on numeric data or do a filter based on a numeric range?

Hert wrote:Lr writes its namespaces in one go, psu writes namespaces there where applicable. Xml wise they are both fine. I think psu's XMP is better readable.
Hert,

Totally agree here. After seeing the PSu XMP file, I was shocked when I saw that LR creates only one rdf section.

Re: XML/XMP question for Hert

Sorry to chime in... I can only speculate, but I believe the fact that Adobe and PSu write out the same block of XMP may be essentially a "design flaw" how XMP works. XMP is basically a language that tells programs how to interpret image metadata. The fact that it is eXtensible means that anyone wh...
