Yes, you can do what you what you want, but with care.
First, if you just plug the SSD into your laptop, Photo Supreme doesn’t know about the photos on the SSD so won’t use them. You would need to import the photos into the laptop Photo Supreme database but without moving the photos, easily done ...

Re: Stacking based on identical filename
Firstly, you are not alone with your photos being a bit of a mess. While all my recent photos are nicely in date folders, my older photos are stored a few different ways so my photos are not all nicely arranged either. Some are also stored on my internal hard drive with the bulk on two different ...

Re: Stacking based on identical filename
I use versions to group different images in different formats (JPG and RAW) and stacks to group different but related images such as focus stacks. This is not the same as you, but is similar enough to be useful but unfortunately does not fully answer your question.

Re: Problems to import from card reader
Hert has fixed the issues with detecting removable drives in 2025.2.0.7801. Upgrade and you should have no more issues.

Re: Problems to import from card reader
Yes, I am having the same issue with the last couple of version and have already reported the issue to support.
When I insert a SD card, I need to manually start the importer. When I insert a USB drive, I need to restart Photo Supreme before I can use the drive. Both these issues have been reported ...

The power of PSU is that it manages your images so you don’t need to worry about where they are stored. PSU knows and helps you.

Re: completely replace all metadata from PSu Catalog
I think clearing out all the metadata is a drastic step. If your testing can determine the particular metadata which is affecting your other programs, Photo Supreme can clear that particular metadata to keep everything happy.

Usefullness of AI Cataloging
I am ready to upgrade my quite old laptop to a new one with a lot more power. I am not a gamer so don’t need a fancy graphics card but I am intrigued by the possibilities of using OpenAI locally for PhotoSupreme cataloging. The majority of my photos are of nature, particularly insects, spiders ...

Re: Issue with long catalog label display
With respect to scientific names, my major photographic subjects are birds, orchids, animals and insects. I know and use scientific names for orchids. I know and use common names for birds and animals and do not know scientific names for birds and animals. For insects, I know higher level common ...

Re: Issue with long catalog label display
Yes, I only currently include the major taxonomic divisions (those in Darwincore) for my labels. I do not use the super or sub divisions.
I considered whether to use the super and sub division labels. You definitely can put the super and sub division labels in the hierarchy and not have them store ...

Re: Issue with long catalog label display
When I started my taxonomic hierarchy, I also thought about the effort to create the hierarchy and looked for methods to automate the creation. I am really into wild orchids and insects and there are about 1700 species of Australian orchids plus over 5000 species of insects found in my local area. I ...

Re: Issue with long catalog label display
Roman, I started cataloging exactly as you initially. I also found its limitations and Darwin Core support came to PhotoSupreme at the right moment for me. Switching my cataloging was a major decision but worth it.

Re: Issue with long catalog label display
I also catalogue my nature photos with PhotoSupreme, so far without issue using Darwin Core. My labels are not too long, at least so far. My method is I added a hierarchal structure as below which reflects the major taxonomic levels of organisms. These labels populate the Darwin core fields in my ...

Re: Long duration for upgrade v2024 to v2025
I just upgraded to v2025 from the latest v2024 and the database upgrade took just on 20 hours to complete. My database is sizable at 448,000 images so a long duration upgrade is not unexpected for me. That is running on windows i7 and SSD but the machine is getting old so not blinding fast. Everyone ...

vkfoto, now that you have a list of faces and names, courtesy of Herts script (thank you Hert for your excellent service) I don’t understand the second half of your question.
