Thanks Geoff - that worked - though my labels that do not write to files did not reconnect to the files. I guess not surprising.

But I had a fairly recent backup so I reloaded that - minimal work to update fortunately.

I have managed to remove a key drive, and folder in that drive, from my folders list.

The files appear to be no longer in the catalogue. They are still in the drive/folder. It all seems to be a bit of a disaster.

I need to add the folder back to the list. I don't know whether when I do that the ...

Further to the above, though I have 16 Gb RAM I had quite a few programs running, so I have shut down everything else, restarted my computer, and closed all programs that start automatically. That has done the trick - I was able to compact. Thanks again for your earlier help above.

That doesn't seem to be the issue.

Thumbs db is 12.2 Gb. Free space on disk is 68 Gb.

I tried only compacting the catalogue db (1.2 Gb) but that freezes PSU too.

Have not had this problem in the past.

PSU otherwise appears to be working okay.

Anything else I should try?

I have tried to run the compact process a few times and each time PSU starts off okay with the bar going back and forth in the activity area at bottom left, but pretty soon that stops and the bar at the top says that the program is not responding. I have left it for many hours including overnight ...

I've got a lot of files that I batch renamed in the format [ABC]_[yyyy][mm][dd]_[filename] so the current filename is e.g.

ABC_20210325_DSF1234.jpg

I now want to rename these files with different text at the front, e.g.

DEF_20210325_DSF1234.jpg

If I use [Text: DEF_][filename] I will of course ...
