Re: "Auto" creation of category and collection names?

haha don't forget to use the tray before it's cleaned out.

I missed that parent setting in the label details somehow. Ive got a related question. If one imports images and they have placename data only the bottom level "location" becomes a catalog label by default. But one can adjust the ...

Re: "Auto" creation of category and collection names?

Once you get the hang of PSU you may find it easier than you think. Why do I say this? Because of all the ways PSU lets you search and manipulate the metadata. Eg you could easily group pictures (eg all images taken in a particular time frame) that you knew were taken in a particular spot, and ...

Re: "Auto" creation of category and collection names?

Hello snowman1,

Thank you for your post. To answer briefly:-

1. Yes I have some working knowledge of creating a basic hierarchy albeit may not be fully on top of every available option. My situation is that ultimately it has to work for tens of thousands of images, most of which already have GPS ...

Re: Syntax of lr:hierarchicalSubject tag?

OK I partly sorted this. I don't need the tag. If I write A|B I get A|B but I also get the desired result ie A as parent and B as child. (A and B can represent metadata tags.)

Syntax of lr:hierarchicalSubject tag?

Newbie posting again here. I might have this completely wrong.

I have been experimenting with trying to put hierarchical keywords in to an images metadata keyword field.

I put in lr:hierarchicalSubject=A|B

I get literally lr:hierarchicalSubject=A as the parent and B as the child. What am I doing ...

Re: "Auto" creation of category and collection names?

Thank you Geoff for persisting with me. I appreciate all your information.

I think I'm not seeing the wood for the trees here. But I did find a method which seems to work quite well. I don't know whether this is the programs intended method but it does seem to work well.

It comes out of the close ...

Re: "Auto" creation of category and collection names?

What the metadata is is not so important to me. I was only using that as an example. My question is having found one or two metadata fields how do I turn them into a catalog item in Photo Supreme. What do I actually do in the program itself. What button do I press, what dialog do I fill? Do I copy ...

Re: "Auto" creation of category and collection names?

Thank you Geoff. I understand most of that.

The date and location structure was just an example. I can't get past how I create a hierarchy level from any given IPTC metadata. Do I use the label details dialog, the category level dialog or what. I'm missing something really pivotal. Let's say I ...

Re: "Auto" creation of category and collection names?

I'm wondering now whether the creation of catalog hierarchies are limited to the IPTC metadata referenced by G8DHE above ie as per that IPTC standard? Anyone know it that is why my efforts are failing ie trying to achieve something outside that standard?

Re: "Auto" creation of catagory and collection names?

I'm still lost. I'm missing something really basic. I can't work out how to create a hierarchy in the catalog pane. I simply want photo date taken and location in a drop down hierarchy. I can't seem to create labels which change eg date for photos on different dates.

Re: "Auto" creation of catagory and collection names?

I am going to try and do something different than place data to try and get my head around how to create a category hierarchy (without typing all the data in) eg I'll try to do a date taken/location one. I very confused about how to proceed but I will experiment. I'll go back over the catalog help ...

Re: "Auto" creation of catagory and collection names?

One question about import; if I import photos containing a Countrty-State-City-Location hierarchy is it possible to have this metadata populate the labels seen with the labels panel. Currently I only get a label for the location after import.
