Re: Monitoring a folder

Get FSWatch (unix derived systems. Probably equivalent in windows.)

FSWatch -recursive {top level folder} > watch.log

This will at least give you a list of files that change

There may be other programs that can tell you what sort of file system event occurred -- move, rename, creation, deletion.

Re: Recommended process for importing from Aperture?

Bad idea. Don't import from Aperture, as for every master image there are 3 other images -- A preview and two sizes of thumbnails.

Getting all your metadata out of aperture is a problem. I think I need to:

A: Convert all my keywords from heirarchy to flat by concatenating upper levels to lower ...

Search for EXIF data?

Does PSu map all the exif data? At first blush I can only see date, keywords, title, caption.

I found in Aperture that it was handy to be able to say "Search for all pictures taken with my iPhone during the month of December.

(Capture Month = 12
Camera Make = iphone)

Re: Finding folders takes forever

Ok. I may have remnants of a PSu 3 trial lurking about. So we will remove all files from the database, and start over.

Takes 5 minutes.

In categories I still have 32 things in Miscellaneous. Delete is greyed out.

In Portfolios I have 76695 images. But it seems to be a total. Nothing clickable ...

Finding folders takes forever

Day 2 of my trial.

PSu was fairly quick at importing my aperture library. (I pointed it at the masters folder)

Now

/Volumes/User_Raid/Aperture Library.aplibrary
568 ==> time find Masters/ | wc -l
29274

Re: Monitoring a folder

Consider the following scenario:

I add a new keyword to an image.

PSu writes the new keyword to the image, and flags that entry for writing out to sidecar files and to the image itself.

Power failure.

On start up, PSu looks at the flags, sees that for this file action was to be taken, but wasn't ...

Recommended process for importing from Aperture?

Anyone have a guide to making the transition from Aperture to PSu?

Is there more documentation besides the quick start files under the help menu?

Where do you set preferences on the Mac version?

A: I'd like to bring across my folder project structure from the library.
B: I have tens of thousands ...

Re: How would you all like versions to work for you?

I'm considering PSu just because of versions. The list of programs that support versions is small.

When I first thought about versions, I had in mind a project I did way back before percentages were in common use in CSS and bandwidth was stingy. I created a web page photo album that required 16 ...

Re: Don't change date by writing XMP?

Hert is correct: File mod times should reflect reality. And you want to backup the new version, not ignore it.

Lots of things under the hood depend on file times for actions to be taken. Don't mess with the magic.

This is not going well. I am using a 2012 Mac Pro 4 core 3.2 GHz with 24 Gb of ram, currently with 6 disks attached.

A: The installation was a piece of cake.

B: On startup, it wanted to open it's catalog in my library. Not really wanting this to become part of my time machine backups, copied the ...
