Hi Petter,

To replace a SQLServer database file, you'll need some SQLServer skills (I also think you'll need to update the DB-owner, not sure though). You'll need to detach the database, replace the files, and re-attach the database files.

what is idimager.idicat & do I need that?

That is your V3 database. No, you don't need it anymore as it is converted to V4. You may want to keep it as a backup.

Thanks! This will solve the lens info issue for me. I have read that the next verison is also solving the issue of catalogue metadata not being updated on download, but only on import. For me that is enough to start using the idimager downloader instead the multi-tool download-rename-move-import process I have been ussing the last couple of months. Super!

copy your catalog/thumbs database
Does that just mean copying the folder where the catalogue files are (or even just the idimager.cat.db & idimager.thumbs.db files [what is idimager.idicat & do I need that?]), or is there more to it than that?

Import error on version 4

Dear ID-Imager Team,

I just licensed IdImager V4 and now try to migrate my datbase from version 3.
For that I exported them as IdImager csv and tried to import them into V4.
But unfortunately it reports an error saying that the import is empty 'Die angegebene Datei ist leer.', what defintly is wrong (as the file has mor than 230MB of data in it.

So how to proceed (I need my existing data in the new version)?

Hi Thelordsmurf,

How I would do this; Create a catalog label with the panoramic value; (11100), for examples in a parent label called "IPTC Scene Codes". Then add a synonym "Panoramic" to this label and set the label to ignore it when generating keywords. Also set it to map to the Iptc4xmpCore:Scene XMP tag. In the catalog explorer you can search for "panoramic" and you'll find the 11100 label.

Welcome to the forum.

IDimager will determine the lens of a Canon model as follows:

1. Is there a LensType tag in the MakerNotes:SettingsTable? Yes -> Use that code and lookup the corresponding full lens name
2. No? -> Use LensShortFocal + LensLongFocal to determine the lens range and build the lens type from this info

It seems like you older camera model didn't store the LensType setting (or it stored a value that is not in the list; I think it just didn't store it)

Please give me some pointers to get me started on writing a script.

I don't think that using a downloader script for this would be the best approach; it would only be consistentent when using the downloader but when using the import or sync features (for example a sync from image to catalog) you would still get the lenstype value which would lead to inconsistency.

For the next update (this week) I have added a registry tweak for you so that you can switch off the canon lens type detection which will always use the focal lengths to determine the lens name value.

Once this version is available, run this short script once:
1. Press F9
2. Select file->new to start a new script
3. Copy paste this script code:

WriteToRegistry('', 'UseCanonLensType', 0)

4. Run the script with F9
5. Important! Restart IDimager

Again, this will only work with the next update and future updates.

Consider the following keyword string: ControlledVocabulary.com/[WORLD REGIONS & COUNTRIES]/North America/United States of America/Maryland

When I search the images using the Catalog Explorer, it shows me that there are 7 images cataloged under North America. Simiarly, there are 7 under United States of America and 7 under Maryland. Yet when I select any labels other than the very last label in the string (in this case, Maryland), no images are displayed.

When you select a label in the Catalog Explorer then IDI will display the images for that label. If you want all images for "North America" then click the orange dot icon in the counter field next to the "North America" label name.

Question #1: Am I understanding correctly that in the above example the Catalog Explorer is not designed to search on all keywords within a delimited keyword, that I am simply better off using Ctrl-F when I want to conduct that kind of search?

Hope the orange dot icon explained this. Btw; delimited keywords are not related to searching but define the way that your keywords that are derived from catalog labels are stored in the metadata;
e.g. You have a hierarchy USA/Maryland; then you assign Maryland to one image. Then you sync that image then it gets the metadata keyword USA.Maryland (I here used the dot delimiter).

Question #2: If I use David Reick's Controlled Vocabulary, do I undertand correctly that there is no need for the other catalog labels such as People, Events, Places, Objects and Styles? (I understand that Keywords, People and Auto Catalog are fixed labels, so there is no need to address that.)

That depends, I mean you won't find a label "Mike" in David's structure. If you'd still like to assign "Mike" to an image then you could create it in the People category, optionally in a hierarchy.

Question #3: If the answer to Question #2 is "yes," I think this question can be ignored. Once I have assigned labels to keywords by using Ctrl+F12, I expected that all of the labels within the string would be accessible within the Catalog Explorer's "Keywords" label. However, none of them appear under that label even though the keywords appear within the keyword metadata field. Unless the answer to Question #2 is "Yes," I'm surely not "getting it." If that's the case, what am I missing?

On Ctrl+F12 your metadata will have keywords, created from your catalog labels. The Keyword category is not a reflection of your metadata keywords but is just a category that you can use to define sub labels in. When you import images to IDimager and these images have pre-existsing meta-keywords and IDimager can not relate that keyword to any existing catalog label, then it will create a catalog label for that keyword in the "Keywords" category.

First of all a warm welcome to the IDI forum.

I have therefore installed the Pro Edition on my laptop to have a look at this. My question is, if I install the Pro Edition on my desktop, do I need to do anything to change the reference in the database from c:\pictures to the UNC equivalent. Is this done automatically, or will I need to re-index and re-setup my collections etc?

Try this in Pro;
0. First make a catalog backup, just in case
1. open the Catalog Explorer -> branch Catalog Folders
2. Find the mapped drive letter for your share as was created by the personal version
3. Right click on it and select "Relocate this folder on disk"
4. Click selection button next to the New Folder Name field and point to the drive and click OK
5. Click OK to confirm the change
6. Restart IDimager and check the Catalog Folders again to check if the drive now points to the UNC location

Hi

I am new to this product, and I have searched this forum but I'm still a little confused.

I have installed the trial of Personal Edition on my desktop PC and have cataloged my images (which are stored on my desktop). I have then installed the same trial on my laptop in the hope of accessing my images across the network. However I understand that the images on the Personal edition are referenced as c:\pictures and not \\servername\pictures as with the Pro edition.

I have therefore installed the Pro Edition on my laptop to have a look at this. My question is, if I install the Pro Edition on my desktop, do I need to do anything to change the reference in the database from c:\pictures to the UNC equivalent. Is this done automatically, or will I need to re-index and re-setup my collections etc?

I will be purchasing soon as this product seems to do everything I need, but I am still undecided between Personal and Pro.

Hello,

My new Canon 450D in combination with my Tamron Lens fills the makernotes:lensinfo with "Canon EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L or Tamron or Sigma Bigma", resulting in the same text in xmp:aux:lens. For my previous camera, apparently, the makernotes field did not get filled, and aux:lens contained the actual focal range of my lens (18-250). I like to have this feature back.

Is it possible to write a script, preferably an import script, which accesses makernotes fileds to fill the aux:lens field? The makenotes also contain fields for focalShort and FocalLong.

Please give me some pointers to get me started on writing a script.

I am using delimited keywords. I applied labels using David Reick's sample controlled vocabulary shipped with IDI. I assigned the labels to the keywords using Ctrl+F12.
