Date: 2010-03-10

More info on this problem. I had 5.03 Pro SQL installed on my laptop that runs Windows 7. I verified that the downloader was working as it should. I then upgraded to 5.05 Pro SQL and the downloader stopped and behaves exactly like my XP computer. It seems to me that this is a 5.05 issue. Unfortunately, I blew away my copy of 5.03 so I cannot downgrade.

If there is a manual fix, please let me know.

I keep a written record of my work flow so I don't accidentally leave out any steps. I have seen MikeP's written workflow, so I'm apparently not the only person who has to write this stuff down.

	Date: 2010-03-10

Hi All,

Thanks to George & Dirk my issue posted in the other forum has been resolved. My laptop is a happy camper. Now, it's time to get my desktop going.

From what I understand, idimager is 64bit capable on Windows7. However, when I run the install, it wants to install in the c:\program files(x86) folder. Since that's the location of 32bit apps, I wanted to check to see if I need to change that install folder to the location of the 64bit program files.

Please advise. Thanks for your assistance,

Ed

	Date: 2010-03-10

Hi Hert... as my list of download sessions continues to grow and grow (and grow!) - I was thinking it would be great if these 2 auto-catalogs could have folders under them to auto-group by Year and Month... similar to the Timeline?

ie: Download Sessions
2010
Mar
2010-01-31 22:07
2010-01-31 20:07
Feb
2010-02-10 10:07

etc...

This would make navigating through this list (which I use very often to find images that were taken/downloaded together) much easier to navigate. Thx! - Andy.

	Date: 2010-03-10

Help. I upgraded to 5.05 today. I cannot get the downloader to show up. If I push the download button, the IDImager window appears to redraw itself, then nothing. I cannot edit any of my profiles. If I try to run a profile, it just says no images found. I tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling, rebooting, all the usuals. Something is not right.

Anyone have a clue. By the way, I am running XP SP3 if it matters.

	Date: 2010-03-10

I don't have much advice except to say it is typically a better approach to find a workflow that works and then try and stick with it. For me this is simply:
a) Download via Idimager (rename/add copyright/mirror RAW/convert RAW to JPG/Version RAW+JPG from camera - all done automatically via a download profile).
b) Review images in Idimager (delete poor images/rate/add catalog labels (auto-sync enabled))
c) Add GPS data using Geosetter (apply GPS and then file - auto-sync occurs in Idimager)
d) Edit Images if needed using Lightroom (apply modifications/file-save DNG preview & Metadata - auto-sync occurs in Idimager/Create Gallery or Upload to private FTP)
e) Upload good images to Smugmug account in Idimager (currently using external Send to Smugmug routine to allow for video transfer/conversion)

Rinse and repeat as needed. The process works very well for me - perhaps it might for you too? Good Luck! - Andy.

I suppose it must be possible to have different label sets visible at the same time, instead of switching between different sets. I must be doing something wrong.
How do i achieve this?

	Date: 2010-03-10

I thought there was or there was not a xmp-file present; is there a difference between different kinds of xmp-files then?
The presence of an XMP file says nothing about its contents.
Exif and IPTC is stored in the image itself. IDI will convert this data (or most of it) to the XMP equivalents. A lot of other programs don't do that, but just create entries in XMP for the data they use / change. I know that DLP did this (and probably still does) and I had to force IDI to re-read the Exif / XMP to make sure that the Exif / IPTC equivalents in XMP were fully populated.

BTW: in this context it's not relevant whether XMP is stored in the image or in a sidecar file.

Gr.
Dirk.

variable workflow order : consequences ? advice ?

Forum: IDimager and Workflow Related Questions
Date: 2010-03-10

My workflow is very variable.
I use Breeze Downloader Pro (or IDI Downloader in the future) to download images in a temp folder. Sometimes i let Downloader Pro add GPS-stamps in the process of downloading, sometimes i don't.
Then I use BeezeBrowser to cul and rename the keepers. But sometimes i am too impatient and use LR before i have renamed.
Mostly i let LR make web-versions, print-versions,... Sometimes i add keywords in IDI, sometimes i don't...
When i have time, i start using IDI to catalog (i don't like the work, so i postpone this). This is usually at the end of the process, but then again: i could start with IDI when i use the IDI Downloader, cul in IDI, rename in IDI, catalogue in IDI and then go to LR to edit.
Oh yes, sometimes i use Geosetter or LR or IDI to add GPS-info somewher in between....
You see: the order in which i do things is very variable. Plus i am rethinking my workflow to use IDI (and LR) as my two most important programs and get rid of the others...
I suppose this is not the right way to do things, but that's the way i do it. But are there any negative consequences, that i should be aware of?
"Don't do X before you do Z, or B happens". In other words, is it wrong to do things the way i do.
And doing the things this way, do yo guys have any advice for me, concerning as to what settings i should use in LR and IDI?

	Date: 2010-03-10

AFAIK GeoSetter only produces partial XMP; it actually does not convert from Exif / IPTC. When IDI finds XMP it will normally not do the conversion either, so the XMP is pretty bare. You'll have to manually import this data again.
BTW: in the last version of Downloader Pro I used (that's more than a year ago) the same happened.

I don't understand, sorry!
I thought there was or there was not a xmp-file present; is there a difference between different kinds of xmp-files then?
